About
We are confronting the problem of pornography with a distinctly relational form of accountability that connects people who want to quit porn with others who can help them achieve lasting victory.
This has been a very gratifying chapter in my career, helping me to see the potential of design to drive life-changing results. Just as I had hoped when I joined CE, we're using technology to "redeem" itself, in a way. The stakes are enormously high, making it both a privilege and a heavy weight to carry.

Roles
Senior Product Designer (Information Architect)
Mar 2024 - Present ()- Create and maintain structural models and standards of our service, so that we can all make more informed decisions
- Reduce the risk of making the “wrong” decision by surfacing new options, hidden implications, risks, and tradeoffs
- Proactively identify patterns — in user feedback, project proposals, etc. — anticipating future structural work, and responding with future-focused design
- Operationalize structural design through transparency into my work and process, inclusion of the team whenever possible, and advising teammates in their projects
- Increase organizational literacy and fluency in structural design through training sessions, consults, and cross-functional diplomacy
UX Supervisor
Oct 2022 - Mar 2024 (1 yr 6 mos)- Handled the typical logistics and admin work, e.g. time off requests
- Took care of my people through weekly 1-1s, holding team tactical meetings, helping them build career growth plans, and conducting annual reviews
- Helped my team see the bigger picture and make a meaningful contribution, as well as protecting their capacity so they could focus and do their best work
- Improved on our core accountability service
- Helped stakeholders see the service as a whole
- Maintained a set of consistent standards and tools to unify our two sub-teams within UX
Senior Product Designer
Nov 2018 - Oct 2022 (4 yrs)- Handled the functional requirements and design for our filtering service when we redesigned our account management portal.
- Helped transition from our legacy payment processor to Stripe, mainly by designing internal customer support tools.
- Designed customer-facing experience when we began to collect sales tax on subscriptions; this wasn't on any customer's wishlist, however, it allowed us to provide them with clarity about the exact breakdown of their payments — including upcoming payments — and helped us avoid having to absorb the cost ourselves.
- Did a complete audit of our (overly-complex) account structure, which helped establish my reputation as a sort of expert on “account structure” — something which has been helpful ever since.
- Helped design the interactions behind a new B2B program which led to expansion into colleges and organizations.
About
What began as a scrappy startup of 2 dozen people when I joined (as their first design hire) grew into an innovative new division staffed by over 200 people when I left 7 years later.
We started off with software that helped professional contractors get custom roof truss specifications and purchase them through a Home Depot vendor.
After we were acquired by Home Depot in 2014, we set our sights on attracting more business from professional contractors by providing a comprehensive, searchable catalog of special-order products for in-store sales associates to reference. It was the first time they could look up pricing without referring to printed price sheets or picking up the phone.
That became a powerful estimation and quoting platform that did, indeed, help Home Depot gain marketshare in the pro contractor market. It was rolled out to over 2,000 Home Depot stores in the U.S. and in 2017 processed $5.7b in quotes and $1.4m in sales.

Internship → Contractor
About
I took an internship in the creative department of a publisher and retailer in San Antonio, TX. After 11 months, it turned into full-time work. During this time I learned a lot about the production of books, catalogs, and other products. It also exposed me to what it was like to design in the context of a real world business. (I also credit this job with my mastery over Photoshop keyboard shortcuts!)

What's Next
Role
I'm interested in UX roles that focus on architecture, system design, research, and product strategy.
Team
I want to work with a cross-functional team focused on achieving outcomes vs. just creating outputs, obsessed with quality and customer satisfaction, and intent on truly solving problems vs. merely shipping solutions.
Company
Ideally, my next job will be with a relatively small product-focused company with a strong remote-first culture, that's been around for 5-10 years.
Mission
I want to keep working with people who are doing things that align with my personal values, e.g. agriculture and food systems, health and chronic disease, and childhood education and life skills.
